Members Popular Post Ed**** Posted February 4, 2020 Members Popular Post Posted February 4, 2020 Hi Lovely People ? I hope you are all well and 2020 started positive for all of you. I need help with something please ? I love arts and love painting but about two years ago I stopped and cannot get back since. I feel scared to start a painting thinking it will be rubbish...and I don't know if I would start again what would I paint? This block makes me carzy... It is in my head and I cannot seem to get around it. It is like being frozen in this feeling/state and cannot get moving again... Anyone has any good ideas, advice please? I have a gift and I should use it, share it and it is frustrating that I cannot... Is this makes any sense?
Moderator Popular Post Li**** Posted February 4, 2020 Moderator Popular Post Posted February 4, 2020 I think everyone can relate to this feeling of being blocked to do something or to get back into a habit of doing something we actually know we really enjoy. I personally never had painting as a hobby, but those few times I have done it, I often felt a bit intimidated. Filling a whole blank canvas with permanent (lol) colors that I can't redo somehow often felt a bit daunting. I don't know if it is any help, but perhaps you could try start with something smaller, like sketching or making a simpler drawing in pencil in a sketch book? Maybe just look out the window and sketch what you see there, or a stilleben of something you find in your kitchen. In whatever way makes sense to you, start with something light and simple and perhaps that will then give you the inspiration to get back to your creative state ?
Moderator Calvin77 Posted February 4, 2020 Moderator Posted February 4, 2020 I've been in a similar position! There is a very good book called The Writer's Way that artists have used to unblock. Have a Google and you should be able to find some more about it and if it could be useful for you :)
Members Popular Post Ca**** Posted February 4, 2020 Members Popular Post Posted February 4, 2020 I have this. I am blocked. I am aware that my emotional block is not allowing the paint to flow onto the page, I am unable to express myself on the page. I am working on yoga and meditation to unblock these emotions.
Members Popular Post Ea**** Posted February 5, 2020 Members Popular Post Posted February 5, 2020 Sweet soul! Not to be too cliche but this life is for us to "take chances! Make messes! The most amazing things can happen when you realize that it is more important for you to try, to create, than it is for you to worry about things that will never happen if you don't
Members Popular Post Ar**** Posted February 6, 2020 Members Popular Post Posted February 6, 2020 I have had a block for several years. What has helped is not taking the art seriously and simply painting. For example, I used to paint detailed pictures, now as paint shapes and take happiness from feeling the brush on the page. I don’t thin, I just paint shapes and use colors. It isn’t what a I want to paint, but it is relaxing and it is painting.

Thank you Lizzie, yes it is very helpful. To start with something simple and familiar from my home ? might give me the initial push I need. I will do that this weekend ? Thank you again ❤ xx
