Members Popular Post co**** Posted December 12, 2019 Members Popular Post Posted December 12, 2019 Okay, I'm slightly exaggerating-- this is an agricultural region (not to mention oil, which I won't)-- but my acreage is surrounded by native trees, and the family farmland just beyond has lots of natural woodland and wetland.... I grew up here, then spent many years living in big cities, before moving back in 2007 to help my elderly mother.. she passed away last year, and now I'm slightly in limbo, not sure yet what the next phase of my life will be.. Meanwhile I try to pay the bills while trying to spend more time on painting, writing fiction and poetry and other projects I'm thinking about... when not busy with all of that ;) I have a serious plant and garden obsession (indoors and out), take way too many photographs, oh yeah, since it's winter, I'm cutting firewood, in the woods whenever I have time.....etc etc.........). I already feel blessed to have a great group of online friends, esp centred around plants and nature, looking forward to meeting some additional positive folks on here with a range of life experiences and locales... Looking ahead to the Winter Solstice-- a time of celebrating the beginning of the Sun's return, but also embracing the darkness of mid-winter, taking time to look inward... from a walk yesterday on the farm.... Wonder if you have any online plant group to recommend? Hi, EYC-- there is a lot of plant world stuff-- what kinds of plants/gardening are you interested in? Of course FB has sucked a lot of the air out of all other rooms but there is a lot of excellent plant content there... there are a few fora outside that still seem reasonably active.. I'll give a couple suggestions when I see what direction you are leaning..here's a random shot from one of my 'marginal' garden areas, July this year..--hmm--scratch that, can't get photo to attach... Right now, since it's winter, I mostly look into tropical house plants.

These days, it seems like the biggest house plant action is on FB and Instagram-- IG is good for pictures and inspiration (though frankly, a lot of the posters don't seem to know the difference between growing plants and displaying them -- they often show them in arrangements where the plants could never get enough light to thrive, esp succulents and cacti).. FB has a lot of specific groups for different types of plants, and these are much more talky than IG.
